About the studio
An independent shop with a long view.
Brow Nouveau is owner-operated and US-based. We build software the way a small workshop builds furniture — slowly, with attention, and with a preference for materials that age well.
What we are
Brow Nouveau, LLC is a privately-held limited liability company organized in the United States. We are an independent software studio — not a contracting shop, not an agency, not a consultancy. Our income comes from the products we operate and the people who choose to use them.
We are deliberately small. The shape of the work we want to do — careful, durable, privacy-first software — is incompatible with the pressure that comes from outside investment, sprawling teams, and the obligation to grow regardless of whether growth serves the product. Staying small is the choice that lets the rest of the practice make sense.
What we believe
Software should respect the people using it. That means no behavioral tracking, no dark patterns, no manipulative retention loops, and no quiet repurposing of customer data. We make money because the product is worth paying for, not because we found a clever way to extract value the customer didn't agree to.
Privacy is a property of the architecture, not a paragraph in a policy. A privacy policy is a description of what the system does. If the system stores plaintext where it should encrypt, ships data to third parties where it shouldn't, or retains records longer than it needs, no policy phrasing fixes that. We design the system first.
"The privacy policy describes the architecture. It does not create it."
Boring is a feature. The longer a piece of software lives, the more its dependencies become liabilities. We choose tools the industry has already stopped arguing about: vanilla web fundamentals, mature server runtimes, relational databases. We can read what we wrote two years ago. We will be able to read it ten years from now.
Ownership matters. We host our own infrastructure where the work demands it. We avoid lock-in to platforms we cannot leave. When a vendor changes terms or pricing, our customers should not be the ones who feel it.
How we work
We pick problems where the user is also the customer — the person using the product is the person paying for it. That alignment lets us optimize for the right thing. There is no advertiser to please and no third party with a conflicting interest in what the software shows.
We ship slowly on purpose. Most features we consider don't make it in. The ones that do tend to stay. Removing a shipped feature is hard; the discipline is to be reluctant earlier in the cycle, not apologetic later.
We test on real devices. We read our own logs. We answer our own support email. The studio is small enough that there is no layer between the people building the software and the people using it — which is, we think, the only way to keep both honest.
Where we are
Brow Nouveau, LLC operates remotely from the United States. We do not maintain a public office. Customer and business inquiries are handled by email; see the contact page for the right address.
What we don't do
We do not take outside investment. We do not run paid acquisition campaigns. We do not sell ads, sell data, or place affiliate tracking. We do not build features whose primary purpose is to manufacture engagement metrics. We do not ship machine learning that trains on customer data we did not collect for that purpose.
Some of these are commitments we make in our products' privacy policies; others are matters of practice. Both kinds matter.
